KBS faces petition over actress linked to Busan stalking death case

The family of a woman who died in a 2024 Busan officetel fall has filed a petition on the KBS viewer board, calling for action regarding an actress appearing in a KBS daily drama. The victim, a woman in her 20s, died after falling from a ninth-floor window during a dispute with her ex-boyfriend.

The victim's mother claims the deceased was suffering from persistent stalking by her ex-boyfriend. She expressed deep distress, stating that while her daughter lost her life, the perpetrator's sister continues to enjoy a successful career as a prominent actress on KBS. The petitioner has asked KBS to clarify if they were aware of this connection and urged the public broadcaster to take responsible measures.

The perpetrator was convicted of multiple charges, including special intimidation, stalking, and property damage. While he received a final sentence of 3 years and 2 months from the Supreme Court, the court ruled that a direct causal link between his stalking behavior and the victim's death could not be clearly established. The petition has sparked debate online, with some supporting the family's grief and others arguing against collective responsibility for family members.
