KBSA disciplines Baejae High School manager and players over derogatory cheering

The Korea Baseball Softball Association (KBSA) has issued disciplinary actions following a controversy involving derogatory cheering during a Cheongnyonggi high school baseball game between Baejae High School and Gwangju Jeil High School.

Baejae High School's manager and two players received one-month suspensions for leading chants that disparaged the opposing team. The KBSA noted that the disciplinary severity was adjusted after the players offered sincere apologies to Gwangju Jeil High School and the latter requested leniency. Two of the students involved have reportedly retired from competitive baseball.

Additionally, the game umpire received a one-month suspension for failing to intervene or halt the match despite the inappropriate cheering. A coach from Gwangju Jeil High School received a reprimand for using verbal abuse and profanity toward the opposing dugout during the protest. The KBSA plans to expand guidance activities to prevent inappropriate cheering and will establish new conduct guidelines for teams to be implemented in national tournaments starting in 2027.
