KC Luxury sues NDLEA for ₦190m over alleged unlawful detention

Afolabi Kazeem Michael, a businessman and socialite known as KC Luxury, has filed a fundamental rights enforcement suit against the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Federal High Court in Lagos. Michael is seeking ₦190 million in damages, alleging unlawful arrest, detention, invasion of privacy, and the unauthorized circulation of his images and videos while in custody.

Michael was arrested by NDLEA operatives on August 13, 2026, at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. The agency stated the arrest was part of an investigation into the seizure of 184.50kg of cocaine, which they allege is linked to an international drug trafficking network using Nigeria as a transit point for shipments to the United Kingdom, Europe, and Asia. The NDLEA also reported the seizure of foreign currencies and luxury items during the investigation.

Through his lawyer, Abdulakeem Labi-Lawal (SAN), Michael challenged his continued detention without formal criminal charges, calling it unconstitutional. An affidavit from his father, Eric Afolabi, claimed Michael spent 14 days in custody without being informed of specific offences. The suit also alleges that NDLEA operatives searched Michael’s Banana Island residence without a search warrant and found no incriminating material.
