KCUS opens gynecology day hospital in Sarajevo

The Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo (KCUS) has opened a new day hospital within its Clinic for Gynecology and Obstetrics. This facility allows patients to undergo various diagnostic and minor surgical procedures using short-term anesthesia or analgesosedation.

Under this new model, patients receive postoperative supervision and can return home on the same day, eliminating the need for multi-day hospitalizations for minor interventions. These services, which were previously often sought in private clinics at an additional cost, are now available through the public healthcare system via a standard referral and compulsory health insurance.

KCUS Director Alen Pilav noted that this concept aims to improve the public health system by providing painless procedures within a single day. Additionally, the institution announced plans to restart its in vitro fertilization department and is addressing staffing shortages by finalizing the recruitment of 100 medical specialists.
