KDE Linux implements automatic Btrfs snapshots for data safety
The KDE Linux project has introduced significant data safety enhancements through the implementation of automatic Btrfs snapshots for all user files. This feature, developed by Hadi Chokr and integrated with the kio-snapshot system and Dolphin file manager, allows users to view and roll back to previous versions of files to protect against accidental deletions or destructive changes.
In addition to data recovery improvements, the project has enabled out-of-the-box CJKV (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese) text input support. Security updates were also implemented, including the removal of unnecessary Docker daemon socket access for the wheel group and fixes to prevent blacklisted kernel modules from entering unified kernel images. The project continues to utilize an automatic QA system to identify and resolve complex integration issues during software development.
