KDE releases Gear 26.08 with new software and major app updates

KDE has released Gear 26.08, a major update comprising 171 packages. This release marks the first net addition to the suite in several years, introducing new tools such as the kdominate C++ library for building HTML and XML documents and KeepSecret, the suite’s first dedicated password manager.

Key application updates include a significant overhaul of the video editor Kdenlive, featuring improved timeline functionality and new effect widgets. The Dolphin file explorer has received UX upgrades, including regular expression filtering and enhanced integration with KDE Connect. Okular, the document reader, has seen reinforced security for digital signing and streamlined settings management. Additionally, Konsole now supports drag-and-drop from terminal links, and Akonadi has undergone C++ modernization.
