KDF and Somali forces conduct clean-up at Kismayo Seaport

Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) personnel serving under the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) conducted a joint clean-up exercise at the Kismayo Seaport Tactical Operating Base (TOB) and its surrounding areas. The initiative involved collaboration with Somali Security Forces (SSF) and local port workers.

The exercise focused on collecting and disposing of accumulated litter and waste, clearing unwanted vegetation, and cleaning designated areas within the port to improve sanitation and safety. Beyond physical cleaning, AUSSOM personnel provided sensitization to port workers regarding proper waste management, environmental hygiene, and the protection of marine ecosystems to prevent waste from reaching the shoreline.

The activity aimed to foster mutual responsibility for the facility and strengthen cooperation between AUSSOM, Somali security forces, and the local workforce. Periodic clean-up activities are expected to continue to maintain these environmental standards.
