The Indonesian Ministry of Cooperatives (Kemenkop) has launched an intensive eight-day internship program to strengthen the management of the Merah Putih Village/Kelurahan Cooperatives (KDKMP). The program involved 54 managers from 31 provinces, focusing on professional management, entrepreneurship, and financial governance. Training sessions and on-the-job practice were conducted at Kopontren Sunan Drajat in Lamongan, East Java, and Kopontren Al-Ittifaq in Bandung, West Java.

Destry Anna Sari, Deputy for Talent Development and Cooperative Competitiveness at Kemenkop, emphasized that competent leadership is essential for KDKMP to become productive and sustainable. In Lamongan, while 317 KDKMP buildings have been constructed, only 90 units are currently operational.

Legislative support for the initiative was highlighted by Nurdin Halid, Vice Chairman of Commission VI of the DPR RI. He argued that KDKMP should function as an integrated economic ecosystem involving State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), banks, and the private sector. Halid proposed that the cooperation between these entities should be formalized through the new Cooperative Law to move beyond voluntary CSR programs toward mandatory, productive business partnerships.
