Kédougou hospital faces medical imaging crisis due to scanner failures

The Amath Dansokho Regional Hospital in Kédougou is facing significant healthcare challenges due to the recurring failure of its 16-slice scanner, the only heavy imaging device in the region.

Frequent breakdowns require technicians to be brought in from outside the region, and replacement parts must often be shipped from Dakar or abroad, causing delays of at least ten days. During these periods, patients requiring urgent scans must be evacuated to Tambacounda, hundreds of kilometers away, placing a heavy burden on families and patients.

To address the crisis, the hospital's board of directors is seeking financial support from partners and local mining companies to fund the purchase of a new scanner and improve the facility's technical capabilities.
