Kędzierzyn-Koźle signs intent to host Territorial Defense Force units

Local authorities in Kędzierzyn-Koźle have signed a letter of intent to facilitate the establishment of a base for the 17th Opole Territorial Defense Brigade (WOT). The agreement was signed by District Starost Artur Maruszczak and Colonel Artur Bartkowski, commander of the 17th Opole Territorial Defense Brigade.

The document concerns real estate located at School Complex No. 3 in Sławięcice. This facility is intended to be prepared and adapted to meet the military requirements for housing Territorial Defense Force units. While the letter of intent is a significant milestone in a two-year effort to increase the military presence in the region, it does not constitute a formal transfer of property; rather, it initiates the formal procedures required to prepare the site.

Local officials noted that the presence of WOT units is intended to support the community, particularly during crisis situations and rapid response scenarios, drawing on lessons learned from the 2024 floods.
