Keşan TSO opposes TPAO urgent expropriation in Trakya
Mustafa Anbarcı, a board member and agriculture group spokesperson for the Keşan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TSO), has called for a reconsideration of the urgent expropriation decision granted to Türkiye Petrolleri Anonim Ortaklığı (TPAO) for its oil and natural gas project in Trakya.
Following a Presidential Decision published in the Official Gazette on September 5, 2026, TPAO was granted authority for urgent expropriation to facilitate drilling locations, roads, pipelines, energy transmission lines, production camps, and storage facilities. The decision affects regions including Edirne, Kırklareli, Tekirdağ, and the Gelibolu district of Çanakkale.
Anbarcı stated that while the chamber does not oppose domestic energy searches, they oppose the “haste” of the process. He expressed concerns that the lack of a specific list of affected villages and parcels creates uncertainty for farmers and investors. Furthermore, he warned of potential risks to soil structure, water resources, and agricultural productivity, specifically mentioning concerns regarding hydraulic fracturing methods.
