KEAO social security debt reaches 52.43 billion euros in Greece
Approximately 12,000 debtors have joined the new 72-installment regulation for social security debts in Greece. Despite the availability of this scheme, participation remains limited nearly three months after its activation.
As of late June, total debts managed by KEAO reached 52.43 billion euros, an increase of 639 million euros over a single quarter. This total consists of 30.31 billion euros in principal debt and 22.12 billion euros in additional fees, meaning penalties and interest account for more than four out of every ten euros owed.
The 72-installment plan is restricted to debts incurred up to 2023. It excludes debtors who already have active payment arrangements or those who have incurred new debts from 2024 onwards, which require a separate 24-installment plan. Consequently, some professionals may face the necessity of managing multiple simultaneous payment arrangements alongside current contributions. The deadline for submitting applications is December 31.
