Kebbi police arrest woman for allegedly stealing newborn baby
The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested 19-year-old Khadija Ibrahim for the alleged abduction of a newborn baby in the Zuru Local Government Area. The incident occurred on July 23, 2026, shortly after the biological mother, Fatima Muhammad, gave birth.
According to police reports, Ibrahim allegedly offered to assist the new mother by fetching hot water before fleeing with the infant. Investigations suggest the suspect was under social and emotional pressure due to not having children. She reportedly deceived her husband for approximately nine months by claiming she was pregnant, eventually presenting the stolen baby as their own.
Following a sustained investigation, police arrested Ibrahim on August 14, 2026, and successfully recovered the child. The baby has been safely reunited with the biological mother. Ibrahim remains in custody and is expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are finalized. Commissioner of Police Umar M. Hadejia commended the officers for their professionalism in the recovery operation.
