Kebbi State labor unions defend Governor Idris against welfare allegations

Labor unions in Kebbi State have defended the administration of Governor Nasir Idris against allegations of worker neglect. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) dismissed claims made by African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate Abubakar Malami, who alleged that workers suffer from unpaid pensions and unlawful salary deductions.

NLC Chairman Murtala Usman stated that the union has engaged in continuous collective bargaining with the state government since 2023. He noted that the state has implemented a minimum wage of ₦75,000, which exceeds the federal benchmark of ₦70,000. The union characterized Malami’s promises regarding worker entitlements as “baseless political statements.”

Similarly, the Kebbi State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) commended Governor Idris for improving teacher welfare and education infrastructure. The NUT chairman, Zaki Sarki, dismissed a viral social media video alleging poor education funding as “doctored” and misleading. He cited the recruitment of over 2,000 teachers and the construction of thousands of classrooms as evidence of the administration’s commitment to the sector.
