Kebbi State sponsors 300-couple mass wedding and adds 50,000 to health insurance scheme

The Kebbi State Government announced a mass wedding program for 300 couples across its 21 local government areas. Each groom will receive a N250,000 dowry, and all couples must undergo medical screening. The ceremony will be held in Birnin Kebbi with Governor Nasir Idris, Islamic clerics and dignitaries in attendance. The governor’s wife’s NANAS Foundation will supply beds, mattresses, food and other essentials, and a monitoring committee will oversee the couples’ welfare after the event.

In a separate initiative, Governor Nasir Idris approved the enrolment of 50,000 poor and vulnerable residents into the Kebbi State Social Health Insurance Scheme. The programme, overseen by the Kebbi State Contributory Health Care Management Agency, aims to expand access to quality healthcare and move the state toward universal health coverage. Enrolment will begin in the coming weeks across all 21 local government areas, targeting roughly 200 beneficiaries per ward.
