Kecerovce faces unusual election with 24 candidates sharing surname
The Slovak village of Kecerovce is facing an unusual situation ahead of its municipal elections scheduled for October 24, 2026. Out of 63 total candidates competing for 11 council seats, 24 individuals share the surname Gábor or its feminine variations.
The high concentration of the same surname includes 22 men and two women. The repetition extends to first names as well; for instance, there are four candidates named Peter Gábor, along with multiple individuals named Marek, Michal, and Roman Gábor.
These candidates represent a wide range of political affiliations, including Smer-SD, KDH, SaS, SNS, and Hlas-SD, meaning voters will encounter the same surname across different political platforms.
