Kecskemét minor charged with identity theft and online fraud

A minor in Kecskemét has been charged with multiple crimes after allegedly using his mother's identity to commit online fraud. According to the Bács-Kiskun County Chief Prosecutor's Office, the youth obtained his mother's ID and address card without her knowledge or consent in July 2024.

Using these documents, he opened a bank account in her name via a mobile application. He then used various pseudonyms on social media to advertise swimming pools that he did not actually possess. The perpetrator requested that victims transfer the purchase price and shipping costs in advance to the account opened under his mother's name.

Within a single week, seven people from Bács-Kiskun, Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok, Békés, Pest, and Fejér counties were defrauded. Each victim transferred between 22,000 and 33,000 Hungarian forints before the suspect became unreachable.
