Kecskemét wins gold and two special awards at Entente Florale Europe
The Hungarian city of Kecskemét has achieved significant international recognition at the Entente Florale Europe 2026 competition. During an awards ceremony held in Carlow, Ireland, the city received a gold rating along with two special awards.
Kecskemét was honored with the Entente Florale Europe Presidential Special Award for its efforts in “Sustainable Environment – Mitigating Climate Change.” The city’s submission highlighted various initiatives, including community tree planting, rain gardens, a hydrogen bus program, and biomass-based district heating services. Additionally, the city received the Green Spaces Special Award from the international organization World Urban Parks, achieving the highest average score in its category for green space evaluation.
The awards were accepted by Deputy Mayor Engert Jakabné. The recognition follows an evaluation by an international jury that assessed urban sustainability, the protection of natural and built heritage, and community engagement. This achievement marks a historic moment, as it is only the second time in the history of the Entente Florale Europe that a participant has secured both a gold rating and two special awards.
