Kedah police officers face disciplinary action for various offenses
Kedah Police Chief Datuk Adzli Abu Shah reported that 90 individuals, including senior and junior officers and three civil servants, have been subject to disciplinary investigations through June this year. These investigations involve 69 disciplinary inquiry papers covering various offenses such as crime, drugs, corruption, commercial crimes, and Sharia law violations.
While the number of individuals involved shows a decrease compared to last year—when 294 individuals were investigated across 155 inquiry papers—the police chief expressed continued concern regarding the trend. Specific offenses identified in the current year's investigations include 33 criminal cases, 24 drug-related cases, seven corruption cases, four commercial crime cases, and three Sharia cases.
Disciplinary measures taken by the Royal Malaysia Police include suspension, being placed on standby, and dismissal, regardless of rank. Between 2021 and June of this year, 67 individuals were placed on standby, with drug offenses being the most frequent cause. Additionally, 10 individuals were suspended since 2023, and 10 individuals have been dismissed for various misconduct, including corruption and drug offenses.
