Kediri Police uncover two cases of infanticide and abortion

Police in Kediri Regency have uncovered two separate cases involving infants and abortions in early October 2026.

In the first case, located in Pare District, authorities arrested TW (23) and DA (22) after a male infant was found buried behind a house in Gedangsewu. Investigations revealed that TW gave birth independently and killed the infant by suffocation. DA subsequently assisted by transporting and burying the body. The couple, who had been in a relationship for two years, reportedly acted out of fear that the pregnancy would be discovered by their families.

The second case, occurring in Pagu District, involved an abortion performed by AW (20) and RGP (20). The pair allegedly disposed of a fetus in a village area after storing it in a plastic bag. Police stated the motive was a desire to hide the pregnancy and a lack of agreement regarding marriage. Both sets of suspects face charges related to the Indonesian Criminal Code and child protection laws.
