Kediri sugar producers advance national self-sufficiency goals

Sugar production activities in Kediri, East Java, are seeing significant developments as companies work toward national sugar self-sufficiency. PG Meritjan Kediri has officially concluded its 2026 milling season and sugarcane absorption as of September 20, 2026. General Manager Tites Agung Priyono reported that the factory successfully met its targets, milling up to 2.5 million quintals of sugarcane, an increase from the 2.2 million quintals processed in 2025.

Simultaneously, PT Sinergi Gula Nusantara (SGN) has commenced the harvesting of the SGN 01 superior sugarcane variety for the 2025/2026 milling year. This initiative is part of a national strategic project aimed at strengthening food security. The SGN 01 variety boasts high productivity potential, estimated at 125 tons per hectare with a 9.5 percent yield. SGN President Director Mahmudi stated that the program aims to improve operational efficiency and increase farmer welfare, with projected net profits for partner farmers reaching approximately Rp55 million per hectare.
