Keelung Municipal Athletics Stadium reopens after NT$900 million renovation
The Keelung Municipal Athletics Stadium has officially reopened following a five-year renovation project costing over NT$900 million. The facility, which has served the city for over 40 years, features a national-standard 400-meter track, indoor straight tracks, and smart safety management systems designed to accommodate both professional athletes and the general public.
Keelung Mayor Hsieh Kuo-liang hosted an opening ceremony attended by Legislative Yuan President Yuwen Jason You. Mayor Hsieh noted that the project faced various contractual and environmental challenges during its development. To mark the reopening, the city has announced a trial operation period from October 3 until December 31, during which the outdoor tracks, basketball courts, and tennis courts will be free for public use.
The stadium is set to host immediate events, including the National Autumn Sports Joint Competition, and is scheduled to host the National Primary School Athletics Championship in May 2027.
