Keely Hodgkinson claims 800m victory at London Diamond League

British 800m Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson won the women's 800 metres at the Diamond League meeting in London, clocking 1:56.21. She held off Dutch runner Femke Broeders‑Bol, who finished second, while Ethiopia's Tsige Duguma took third. Hodgkinson said the win came after “a tough couple of weeks” and she was pleased to race in front of a home crowd before turning her focus to the European Championships.

The race followed a remarkable indoor season in which Hodgkinson set the women's indoor 800m world record and captured a world title. Earlier in the outdoor season she had taken second places in Stockholm and Eugene, including a new British record in Stockholm, before a fall in Eugene disrupted her progress. The same evening fellow Briton Josh Kerr broke Hicham El Guerrouj’s 27‑year mile record at the same stadium.

Other competitors included Australia’s Sarah Billings (fourth) and the United States’ Addison Wiley (seventh). The victory adds to Hodgkinson’s recent indoor successes and positions her as a leading contender for upcoming European competition.
