Keely Hodgkinson debuts custom Nike speed suit at Athlos meet

British 800-meter runner Keely Hodgkinson debuted a custom-designed Nike speed suit during her victory at the Athlos meet in London. The suit was developed through extensive research at the LeBron James Innovation Center, utilizing computational aerodynamics and 3D-printed vortex generators to minimize drag.

Designed to balance performance with athlete preference, the hooded, open-back suit features technical elements such as an articulated back knee for smooth movement and a 4D mobility gusset. Notably, the design includes a custom cut in the hood to accommodate Hodgkinson’s preference for wearing her hair in a ponytail, despite aerodynamic studies suggesting a different approach might be faster.

Hodgkinson won the race with a time of 1:56.40, finishing more than two seconds ahead of runner-up Valentina Rosamilia. The kit was paired with Nike Victory Elite spikes, which incorporate a carbon plate and titanium pins.
