Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Keenan Allen spoke for the first time on Thursday following his arrest early Sunday morning for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. Allen, 34, was detained by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and spent several hours in the Marion County Jail before being released.
Allen faces charges including a Class A misdemeanor for endangering a person and a Class C misdemeanor for operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol level of .08 or higher. Under Indiana law, a Class A misdemeanor can result in up to one year in jail and a $5,000 fine.
When questioned about the incident, Allen declined to provide details, stating, “Because it’s an ongoing legal matter, I’m not gonna discuss it.” He emphasized his commitment to his professional responsibilities, noting his focus on being a good teammate and preparing for the upcoming season.
Colts general manager Chris Ballard confirmed that Allen has rejoined the team for practice and is expected to play in Week 1. However, the NFL may still review the incident; league policy allows the commissioner to impose fines or suspensions for alcohol-related violations, with a first-time offense typically warranting a three-game suspension.
