Keenan Allen arrested on DUI charges in Indianapolis
Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Keenan Allen was arrested in downtown Indianapolis early Sunday morning following allegations of driving under the influence. The arrest occurred hours after Allen made his preseason debut for the Colts in a game against the Detroit Lions.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers encountered Allen near Meridian and Maryland Streets around 1 a.m. after noticing a vehicle parked in a no-parking zone. Police reported observing signs of intoxication during the encounter. Allen faces two preliminary misdemeanor charges: operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated with a blood-alcohol concentration of .08 or higher, and operating a vehicle while intoxicated in a manner that endangers another person.
Allen, a 34-year-old veteran and six-time Pro Bowl selection, was released from the Marion County Jail on Sunday afternoon. His first court appearance is scheduled for September 16. The Indianapolis Colts issued a statement acknowledging the incident and noted they are in the process of gathering more information.
The arrest follows Allen’s recent signing to a one-year contract with the Colts. Legal experts and analysts have noted that the incident could lead to potential NFL disciplinary action, including a possible suspension.
