Keenan Allen expected to play for Colts following OWI arrest
Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Keenan Allen is expected to play in Week 1 of the NFL season despite a recent arrest. Allen, 34, was arrested early Sunday morning in Indianapolis on misdemeanor charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person.
Colts general manager Chris Ballard stated that the team has handled the matter internally and expressed support for the veteran receiver. Ballard noted Allen’s clean 14-year professional record and characterized him as a “tremendous human being,” asking for grace as he navigates the legal process.
Allen returned to practice on Tuesday morning. He has a court date scheduled for September 16, three days after the Colts' season opener against the Baltimore Ravens on September 13. While the team has not announced internal discipline, the NFL has not yet commented on the incident.
