Keenan Allen joins Indianapolis Colts to reunite with Shane Steichen

Veteran wide receiver Keenan Allen has joined the Indianapolis Colts on a one-year deal, a move driven largely by his long-standing professional relationship with head coach Shane Steichen. Allen and Steichen previously worked together for seven seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers, a period during which Allen earned four of his six Pro Bowl selections.

During his introductory press conference, Allen described Steichen as a ‘genius’ who understands the intricacies of the game. Allen noted that he and Steichen had maintained personal contact and discussed the possibility of a reunion privately before involving agents.

Now entering his 14th NFL season, the 34-year-old Allen intends to rely on his established route-running skills rather than pure speed. He expressed confidence in his ability to remain effective, stating, ‘I’ve just been playing my game. I haven’t lost any speed in that department because I didn’t have any to lose.’ Allen is expected to be a primary target for quarterback Daniel Jones, particularly on third downs.
