KeePassXC releases 2.8.0-beta1 with Qt6 and Wayland support

The open-source password manager KeePassXC has released version 2.8.0-beta1, introducing significant architectural and functional updates. A major change is the migration of the user interface from Qt5 to Qt6, which aims to improve graphics capabilities, HiDPI support, and multi-monitor performance.

For Linux users, the update provides native Auto-Type support within Wayland sessions by utilizing XDG Desktop Portals. It also introduces a Polkit-based Quick Unlock feature, allowing for fingerprint authentication on Linux to match the functionality of macOS Touch ID and Windows Hello. Additional Linux improvements include better AppImage integration and updated Snap packages with Linux kernel keyring integration.

New features include the ability to access and sync remote databases via SFTP or SCP protocols. The software also now supports generating SSH keys (RSA, ECDSA, and Ed25519) and offers native ARM64 builds for Windows, enabling optimized performance on devices such as those using Snapdragon X Elite processors. Users can also configure custom keyboard shortcuts and utilize device password fallbacks on macOS.
