KeePassXC releases version 2.8 with Wayland and Qt 6 support

The open-source password manager KeePassXC has released version 2.8, marking the first stable update in its new series. A major technical shift in this release is the migration from Qt 5 to Qt 6.

Linux users receive significant usability improvements, including Auto-Type support on Wayland via XDG Desktop Portals and a Quick Unlock feature utilizing Polkit. The update also introduces native ARM support for Windows and an experimental AArch64 AppImage for Linux. Other new features include remote database synchronization, customizable keyboard shortcuts, and an integrated SSH Agent capable of generating RSA, ECDSA, and Ed25519 keys.

Security enhancements address five vulnerabilities found in versions 2.7.x and earlier. These include a use-after-free error during legacy KDB database imports (CVE-2026-69150), browser-integration issues, and a Windows-specific concern regarding SSH key sharing with Pageant. Developers noted that while AI-assisted analysis helped identify these flaws, none originated from AI-generated code. The vulnerabilities are rated low to moderate severity and do not affect core cryptography.
