Keeta delivery platform denounced in Brazil for algorithmic speed pressure on riders

The delivery app Keeta, owned by Chinese firm Meituan, was reported to the São Paulo Ministry of Public Labor (MPT) by rider Elias Pereira Freitas da Silva Júnior (known as JR Freitas). The complaint alleges that Keeta sends messages telling couriers their speed is "below the expected" level, imposes countdown timers of up to 49 seconds to accept orders, and links bonuses to faster deliveries. Workers say the system can block or penalise them even when traffic, rain or signals cause delays, creating anxiety and risking road safety.

The filing requests preservation of geolocation data, messages and payment records, an independent audit of the algorithm, suspension of speed alerts until safety is proven, and protection against retaliation. Keeta responded that rider safety is a priority and that its AI‑driven system is designed for secure deliveries. The MPT is already investigating delivery‑speed demands after a rise in traffic fatalities in São Paulo.
