Kefalianos family relocates from Australia to Greek island Kalymnos

Zoe Kefalianos, 36, and her husband left Darwin in 2024 with their five children – ages 9, 8, 4 and 2 – after selling their home and moving more than 15,000 kilometres to Kalymnos, a Greek island of about 18,000 residents. They now live in a tiny village of roughly 400 people, saying the slower pace gives their children greater freedom and a stronger sense of safety.

The family says they have no plans to return to Australia, noting the close‑knit community and the reduced pressure compared with their previous life in Darwin. Their move reflects a broader trend of Australians seeking a better work‑life balance abroad amid rising living costs and housing affordability challenges.
