Kefalonian community honors Saint Gerasimos in Kifisia

The Association of Kefalonians and Ithacians of Kifisia and Northern Suburbs held an annual commemoration for Saint Gerasimos, the patron saint of Kefalonia, at the Panagia Eleftherotria Sanctuary in Kifisia on October 18. The service, led by Archimandrite Nikolaos Kartouliaris, included hymns performed in the traditional Kefalonian style.

The event highlighted the historical connection between the Kefalonian community and the sanctuary, noting that two of the shrine's founders were originally from Kefalonia.

Saint Gerasimos, born in 1509 in Trikala Korinthias, is a central figure in Orthodox tradition. After traveling through various holy sites including Mount Athos, Jerusalem, and Sinai, he established a monastery in Omala, Kefalonia. He passed away in 1579, and his feast day is observed on October 20, marking the translation of his relics.
