Keheliya Rambukwella faces contempt petition in Sri Lanka
Transparency International Sri Lanka (TISL) has filed a petition with the Supreme Court seeking contempt proceedings against former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella and four former senior health sector officials.
The petition alleges a failure to comply with financial orders issued by the Court on March 27, 2026. The orders require Rambukwella to pay Rs. 75 million and the four other respondents to pay Rs. 50 million each, totaling Rs. 275 million. TISL contends that this non-compliance constitutes a deliberate disregard for judicial authority.
The case highlights ongoing concerns regarding governance and accountability within Sri Lanka’s public sector. The Supreme Court is expected to review the petition to determine if the alleged failure to fulfill these financial obligations warrants legal consequences for contempt.
