The Finnish Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (Kehitysvammaliitto) has warned that its entire operations are at risk due to proposed funding cuts. According to the association, a grant proposal for next year prepared by STEA, an agency under the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, would nearly eliminate the organization's general grant.

Executive Director Susanna Hintsala stated that the cuts would amount to approximately one million euros, leaving only about 200,000 euros for general expenses. This funding is essential for covering statutory employer obligations, including personnel matters, occupational healthcare, premises costs, and data security. The association has already reduced its staff from 60 to 46 employees in recent years.

In response to the proposal, the association has immediately initiated change negotiations involving all staff members. The cuts threaten indirect support services, including the Selkokeskus (easy-to-read communication center) and Papunet, which serves individuals with speech impairments.
