Keiko Fujimori defends Defense Minister against interpellation
Peruvian President Keiko Fujimori has expressed support for Defense Minister Raúl Belaúnde, calling a motion for interpellation filed by the Juntos por el Perú (JPP) party “premature.” The motion seeks to have the minister answer 43 questions regarding his management and political actions before the Chamber of Deputies. Fujimori noted that her administration has been in office for just over two weeks and emphasized that the priority is to show results through action.
Separately, Senator Iber Maraví of Juntos por el Perú addressed allegations of physical and psychological violence against a former partner involving deputy Julián Pérez. Maraví stated that the party will evaluate the information and follow due process, denying any internal protection for the legislator. Maraví also declared that his caucus will maintain active opposition to the Fujimori administration, rejecting claims of “revanchism” and stating they will not grant the government a “honeymoon” period.
