Keiko Fujimori faces scrutiny over ties to Argentine financier

Immigration records have revealed that Argentine financier Damián Valenzuela Mayer visited Lima on 44 occasions, contradicting claims made by Peruvian President Keiko Fujimori regarding the timeline of their relationship. While Fujimori suggested their connection began recently, records show Valenzuela was in Lima multiple times during her 2011 presidential campaign.

In 2011, Valenzuela was linked to the campaign through Alonso Rey Bustamante, founder of the law firm Payet, Rey, Cauvi, Pérez, who helped establish Valenzuela’s investment firm, Latin America Invest, in Miraflores. Fujimori has acknowledged meeting Valenzuela at a spa in La Victoria but has denied any romantic involvement.

Legal experts are debating the implications of these revelations. Some argue the disclosure is legitimate due to Valenzuela’s alleged role as a presidential advisor, while others contend the reporting lacks public interest and fails to prove a formal link between the Argentine national and the Peruvian state.
