Keiko Fujimori leads Peruvian election runoff amid legislative challenges

Keiko Fujimori is facing significant political developments in Peru. According to ONPE reports regarding the 2026 elections, Fujimori holds a narrow lead of 651 votes over Roberto Sánchez in the second round.

In legislative matters, a draft report from the Constitution Commission recommends against granting legislative powers to Fujimori. Deputies expressed concerns that the request covers too many imprecise areas without demonstrated urgency, potentially turning the Executive into a second Legislative branch.

Additionally, Fujimori has announced a minimum wage increase to 1,230 soles starting October 1, with a further increase to 1,300 soles following the El Niño phenomenon. To support small businesses, she also proposed a one-time 100-sol bonus for micro and small enterprises (mype) with two to ten employees.
