Keiko Fujimori struck by object during Tacna ceremony
During the traditional Flag Procession in Tacna, celebrating the 97th anniversary of the city's reincorporation to Peru, President Keiko Fujimori was struck in the back by an object, appearing to be an egg, thrown from a balcony.
Security agents attempted to deflect the projectile with an umbrella, but the impact occurred. The President was not injured and continued with the official activities. The incident caused delays in the ceremonial program and required security forces to manage crowds and clear the route.
Following the event, National Police arrested a 45-year-old man identified as David. Authorities allege he attempted to throw another object at the President as she was departing in a vehicle. The suspect denied the accusations and was taken to the Tacna central police station for investigation. Witnesses and security footage are being reviewed to determine the intent behind the actions.
