Keinan Ahoy sentenced for assaulting good samaritan

Keinan Ahoy, 19, has been sentenced in Armidale Local Court after pleading guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The incident occurred on May 17, when Ahoy assaulted a man who was attempting to intervene in a verbal dispute involving Ahoy and an ex-partner.

Judge Karen Stafford noted that the victim was acting as a “good samaritan” by telling Ahoy to leave the woman alone. During the altercation, the victim suffered a bleeding nose and became dizzy from multiple assaults. Following the attack, Ahoy sent a text message to the victim's father bragging about the strike, describing it as “a body-shot so good it came from another universe.”

While the defense argued that Ahoy was intoxicated and had been provoked, Judge Stafford ruled that the victim's actions did not constitute sufficient provocation to reduce Ahoy's responsibility. The defense also cited Ahoy's history of childhood exposure to violence when requesting a community corrections order.
