Keio University student arrested for credit card theft

A 22-year-old Keio University student, Karen Shinzawa, has been arrested by the Akabane Police Station on suspicion of theft and fraud. Authorities allege that while working as a receptionist at a sports facility in Shibuya, Tokyo, she used a master key to steal customers' credit cards from locker rooms.

Shinzawa is accused of using the stolen cards to make unauthorized purchases, including cosmetics, in Shinjuku. While she admitted to impulsively using a card to buy cosmetics, she has partially denied stealing the cards, claiming she found them in the changing rooms. The total estimated damages from her suspected activities amount to approximately 1 million yen.

Reports indicate that Shinzawa, a returnee born in New York, comes from a wealthy background. Her father is a high-ranking executive at a major international credit card company, currently serving as a Managing Director overseeing European operations. The company has declined to comment on the matter, citing privacy policies regarding employees and their families.
