Keisha Lance Bottoms campaigns in Georgia on Black men and rural healthcare

Former Atlanta mayor and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Keisha Lance Bottoms held a series of campaign events across Georgia. At a forum in Atlanta’s Gathering Spot, she addressed concerns of Black male voters, proposing free pathways to technical and community college, support for Black‑owned small businesses, a prison‑to‑work pipeline for non‑violent offenders, and a housing fast‑track initiative to expand down‑payment assistance and create an affordable‑housing trust fund.

Later in the week Bottoms visited Statesboro in Bulloch County, meeting with local doctors, nurses and the city mayor. She highlighted the need for affordable, accessible healthcare and Medicaid expansion, noting that many rural Georgians must travel over 40 minutes for hospital care. Bottoms cited her own experience with a mammogram as evidence of the importance of comprehensive coverage.

Both events underscore Bottoms’ strategy of appealing to traditionally loyal Democratic constituencies—Black men and rural communities—to boost turnout ahead of the November gubernatorial election.
