Keith Kellogg says Ukraine has right to strike targets in Russia

Keith Kellogg, former special envoy for Ukraine under Donald Trump, stated in a Bloomberg interview that Ukraine has the full right to strike targets within Russian territory in response to Moscow's actions. Drawing on his experience from the Vietnam War, Kellogg argued that there should be no ‘safe zones’ for an adversary during a conflict. He noted that because Russia has targeted Ukrainian energy infrastructure, Kyiv should be the one to define which Russian targets to strike, adding, ‘Let the Ukrainians do what they do so well.’

Kellogg characterized the current state of the war as Russia not winning, but merely prolonging the conflict. He also addressed the relationship between Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, describing recent friction and Trump's comments regarding Zelenskyy's potential resignation as ‘noise.’ He compared both leaders as being stubborn and outspoken.

Additionally, Kellogg touched upon tensions regarding a potential agreement between Trump and Vladimir Putin concerning Russian diesel fuel supplies to international markets. While Trump seeks to lower energy prices ahead of the November 3 US midterm elections, Kellogg believes any such deal would not be preferential to Putin and would not significantly impact the global market. He suggested that Putin is attempting to exploit the upcoming US elections and the political situation surrounding Trump.
