Keith Richards maintains fitness through Rolling Stones rehearsals

Keith Richards, the legendary guitarist for The Rolling Stones, has stated that he does not engage in traditional gym workouts. He finds exercise boring and maintains his physical health through the rigors of band rehearsals, noting that standing and moving for eight to nine hours a day during practice serves as sufficient physical activity. Richards noted that he only exercises specifically for rehabilitation following injuries, such as broken ribs.

This approach contrasts sharply with frontman Mick Jagger, who maintains his fitness through running and working with a physical education instructor. Jagger’s disciplined physical regimen, which includes studying ballet and dance, supports his iconic stage presence.

Richards' musical legacy is rooted in his upbringing in Dartford, Kent, where he was influenced by jazz and blues. After attending Sidcup Art College, he became a foundational figure in rock music, helping to define the sound of an era through his work with The Rolling Stones.
