Kelantan activist calls for stricter laws on foreign land rentals

Social activist Mohd Azhan Mohd Adnan, known as Abbe Hae, is urging the Kelantan state government to amend existing enactments to prevent private land from being leased to foreigners, specifically targeting the growing Rohingya community.

Abbe Hae expressed concern that without legislative changes, foreign groups could dominate local land ownership within two decades. He noted that current laws may limit the state government's ability to take action against private landowners who rent to non-citizens.

In related developments, the activist also alleged that a local shop in Kota Bharu is being used as a hub for processing documents for undocumented immigrants. He further claimed that a local woman, believed to be the wife of a foreign national, holds significant funds in her bank account despite operating a small retail business.

Local residents in Tanah Merah have reported anxiety regarding a large-scale betel leaf plantation operated by the Rohingya community on leased land. Reports indicate the community in that area has grown from approximately 15 individuals a decade ago to nearly 100 people today.
