Kelantan Police Confirm Jail Capacity Sufficient for Daily Drug Addict Arrests

The Royal Malaysia Police in Kelantan have mandated that the 56 police stations across the state arrest one drug addict each day, a policy that began on 15 July and will run for three months until mid‑October. Police Chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said the current jail capacity remains adequate, with no reports of overcrowding or operational problems.

The strategy assigns station chiefs to capture individual addicts, district narcotics heads to target dealers, and the Narcotics Investigation Unit to focus on major traffickers. Although overall drug‑related cases in Kelantan have declined, the daily arrest requirement will continue for the duration of the program, after which its effectiveness will be reviewed.
