Kelheim implements school bus safety training for 1,050 students
In the Kelheim district of Germany, 1,050 fifth-grade students participated in practical traffic safety training sessions across seven secondary schools. The initiative, organized by the Kelheim district office, aimed to teach children how to navigate potential hazards during their daily commute.
The training focused on concrete actions rather than theoretical rules, covering safe behavior at bus stops, maintaining proper distance from approaching vehicles, and understanding the bus's swing radius. Students also practiced emergency procedures, including the correct use of emergency hammers and the manual opening of bus doors.
A key component of the program involved a demonstration of a sudden braking maneuver at approximately 30 km/h. To illustrate the physical forces involved and the dangers of standing without holding on, instructors used a water-filled barrel as a dummy to represent an unsecured passenger.
