Kelime Müzesi opens in Ankara to showcase Turkish language richness

The Kelime Müzesi (Word Museum), located on the slopes of Ankara Castle, offers an interactive exploration of the Turkish language. Established by author Şermin Yaşar, the museum aims to honor the Turkish language by preserving its cultural depth and highlighting forgotten expressions.

Opened in 2022 to coincide with Turkish Language Day, the museum is housed in a three-story historical building that previously served as a mohair warehouse. The exhibits are organized by theme across the three floors, covering topics such as word origins, meanings, idioms, proverbs, and language games.

Unlike traditional museums, the facility emphasizes interactive learning. Notable features include a ‘Word Wall’ where visitors can explore the meanings of words found in songs and folk tunes. The museum is designed to engage visitors of all ages, particularly children, by allowing them to interact with linguistic elements to foster language development.
