Kelkit sets world record by cooking 6,840 liters of dried beans
A new world record was set in the Kelkit district of Gümüşhane, Turkey, where 6,840 liters of dried beans were cooked in a single cauldron. This achievement surpasses the previous record of 5,600 liters set in Macedonia in 2012, officially entering Kelkit into the Guinness World Records.
The event was organized through a collaboration between the Gümüşhane Governor's Office, Kelkit Municipality, and the Kelkit Chamber of Commerce and Industry. To ensure accuracy, the entire cooking process was supervised by a food engineer, and the final measurement was conducted in the presence of engineers and two independent witnesses.
Beyond the record, the initiative aims to promote the Kelkit Sugar Bean, a product grown in the Kelkit Valley, including the Köse and Şiran districts. Kelkit Mayor Ünal Yılmaz stated that the goal is to increase the visibility of the local crop to help farmers overcome marketing challenges and provide economic benefits to the district.
