Kelkit Sugar Bean sets Guinness World Record in Turkey
The Kelkit Sugar Bean, a geographically indicated product from the Gümüşhane province in Turkey, has set a new Guinness World Record. A massive batch of dry bean stew, measuring 6,840 liters, was prepared in a single cauldron to break a 14-year-old record previously held by Macedonia, which stood at 5,600 liters.
The event was organized through a collaboration between the Gümüşhane Governor's Office, Kelkit Municipality, and the Kelkit Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The initiative, which has been in preparation for approximately one year, aimed to promote the region's agricultural heritage and local culinary identity on a global stage.
Kelkit Mayor Ünal Yılmaz stated that the achievement represents more than just a quantitative measurement, noting it is a result of collective effort and unity within the district. Local authorities intend to use this international recognition to further brand regional products for global markets.
